Taxes are the engine that fund job growth? If that were true, NY would have about zero unemployment. Any freshman economics student can tell you raising taxes DECREASES employment.

Citing the Clinton years ignores one major macroeconomic reality. First, Clinton raised taxes ONCE, in the 1993 budget bill. However, at the same time he did that, the Fed was dramatically lowering interest rates, which offset the drag on economic growth, and hence job, from those higher taxes.

You are correct when you suggest Cuomo's tax cap and budgets are politically motivated. Passing a tax cap without serious mandate relief to local govts is pure gamesmanship, but at least this governor has a clue about the need to attract private sector jobs to NY, which is the REAL source of wealth and government revenues that fund all the govt services we desire.

Finally, why does NY govt cost twice as much to provide services as many similar states? In any event, kudos on a blog that is well-written and thought provoking. We probably agree on nothing politically, but at least you make cogent and reasoned arguments for your positions, regardless of how wrong they are. :)Phana24JGhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13663861319176602442noreply@blogger.com
